Ignite London #2

A while ago, Joe and I attended Ignite London. Regular readers of this blog will know that we're big fans of the Pecha Kucha talk format, and given that the Ignite evenings consist of dozens of 5-minute talks with 20 slides each, it was right up our street!

I had volunteered to do a talk about some of Britain's lesser-known historical buildings: sea forts (something I debuted at our second internal Pecha Kucha session last December). You can see my talk in full below (or in a larger format from the Ignite channel on Vimeo).

I was particularly pleased that my talk proposal was accepted, as I got to join a great and varied group of presenters, including such luminaries as Cory Doctorow. The talks we saw were hugely eclectic, ranging from Daves in History by Dave Joyner, to advances in genetic sequencing by Matt Wood, with some flash photography tips from NK Guy and the not-so-lonely journey of a Jewish Heavy Metal fan by Keith Kahn Harris between. In total, seventeen talks crammed into a two-and-a-half hour session.

All in all it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The quality of the other speakers was generally excellent, and the subject matter far-ranging and engaging. And hey, even if an individual talk didn't pique your interest, there was always another one along five minutes later.

Here's looking forward to the next one!
