Pech-app Cake-cha
No, this isn't the new craze in ballroom dancing, nor is it the first attempt at communication with alien beings. It is something altogether more exciting! Bear with me and I'll reveal all...
Thursdays are always a much anticipated day here at Cogapp HQ. It's nothing to do with their proximity to the weekend, nor are any of us fans enough of Thor as to warrant getting excited by a day named after him. No - the fourth working day of the week heralds the arrival of Cake Thursday for all Cogapp kind. At 4 o'clock on this hallowed day, we all gather together for a bit of time over cake, tea and all manner of other delicacies and discuss what we're all getting up to (in between bites of dessert-y delights of course).
However, whether it be due to anarchy or inspiration, our Technical Director Ben suggested that instead of the normal occurrence of informal chats and exchanges, last week's Cake Thursday (yes... I am going to insist that 'cake' be capitalised in this instance) be dedicated to a brief session of Pecha Kucha presentations, cunningly titled Pechapp Cakecha (... see what we did there).
First to take the stand was resident Business Manager Helle. Her presentation on her passion for photography was extremely entertaining and was a great insight into her image-capturing methods, inspirations, ideas and desires. My personal highlight was one of the images she presented which was taken completely off the cuff by her niece. A great shot which, as Helle said, showed a great deal of hidden promise in the youngster. It's Wizard-of-Oz-ness really sums up the creativity of youth for me.

Next up was tech-guru and Programmer at Cogapp, Andy Cummins. His presentation, called 'Top Tips for Mac Users', was full of - you guessed it - top tips for Mac users. Shortcuts, hacks and all manner of other different time saving tricks were revealed to us by his very informative slideshow and speech. This proved invaluable given our penchant for using Macs in the creative work we do.
I was lucky enough to take the stand next, with my contribution which I imaginatively titled 'Something about Art'. In my presentation, I shared my feelings on various different artists and images, exhibitions and pictures and even threw in my opinions about whether recent television events could in fact be interpreted as performance art. Having been speaking rather than listening, my opinions on the talk are somewhat biased. But it seemed to have been well received by those listening and I thoroughly enjoyed doing it.
Following me came a joint presentation by Sam and Martin on a top-secret topic that I can in no way give any hint as to what it might have been at all, ever (as it definitely had nothing to do with our new-look website). Suffice to say the talk had us captivated, and the two of them presenting one show was an interesting and productive twist.
Last person to step up to the mark was Joe, our Head of New Technology. As his job title suggests, Joe likes to do things a bit differently, and so veered away from the traditional Pecha Kucha style to give a 5 minute talk on a subject that again, I couldn't possibly give any indication as to what it was. But it was a great talk that had the entire office enthralled for the duration.
And so it was that the first ever Cogapp Pecha Kucha session drew to a close. Lessons were learned, wisdom was imparted, laughs were had, cake was eaten. All was as it should be at Cogapp towers. We've already got people eager to talk at the next session and we're all really keen to hear more about our colleagues' work and interests. The cake has nothing to do with our enthusiasm at all... honest...

Hey Guys, Saw this on Twitter via Wired Sussex.
Ahhh Cake Thursday such a good idea we have them here at Nexus, however our Cake Thursday has manifested into a Cake/Cheese/Savoury goodies Thursday.
Each week a member of the team takes it in turn to treat us. This week a fine selection of biscuits and nougat was had by all. And some left over for breakie.
Good Times
