Online Engagement was the flavour of this year’s British Science Association Science Communication Conference. I was lucky enough to catch the second day, which started with a séance led by Sue Nelson where Vicky Reeves and Shane McCracken peered into their crystal balls to talk about the Future of Online. As I looked around the room it struck me that this future seemed rather imminent: almost every other person was busily tweeting or blogging away on a laptop or smartphone and as the main discussion began a simultaneous, silent conversation was starting to emerge from the ether, held together by the thread of the #sc2011 hashtag.
