New display reveals Brighton's Renegades

May 2002

Brighton Museum & Art Gallery re-opened to the public on May 4th 2002. Amongst the many dazzling new galleries is the revamped Fashion & Style Gallery. An innovative new display called 'Renegade' reveals the clothing and lifestyles associated with the city's infamous history of subcultures.

To complement the exhibits in the glass cases (clothes donated by members of the local community), Cognitive Applications was commissioned to produced two touchscreen multimedia points. These interactives reveal the people and stories behind the clothes.

The audience is invited to listen to stories told by the mods and rockers who fought on the beaches in 1964, look at photos of exotic goths in a local night club or watch video of travellers living on a local site. There is music by local punk band 'Peter and the Test Tube Babies' and in-depth explorations of the weird and wonderful clothing in the display case.

The new Museum and Art Gallery has had a positive reception and Cognitive Applications is proud to have been involved.
