Gold Muse Award for Cogapp's Joseph Cornell DVD-ROM

May 2004

The Magical Worlds of Joseph Cornell DVD-ROM, produced by Cogapp with and for the Voyager Foundation, in collaboration with the Smithsonian American Art Museum has been awarded the Gold Muse Award for Art 2004 at the American Association of Museums annual conference in New Orleans.

In their fifteenth year, the awards are presided over by judges drawn from museum and media sectors across the US, and are sought after as markers of excellence by organisations worldwide.

The judges said of the work: "Starting with its beautiful navigation design and art direction, no expense – or care - has been spared in the creation of this exquisite DVD-ROM…The spirit of Cornell’s artwork is honored through the extraordinary fidelity of the imaging, the ability to see all sides of the boxes, and even virtually handle their components. Film clips of the artist blended with various commentaries made for a deep understanding of his work. This was an utterly appropriate use of technology, and the DVD-ROM medium allows for so much material we felt like we could play with this disc for days and days – and wanted to!"

Our production director, Jason Ryan, was on hand for the prize giving. Speaking afterwards he said: "It has been a privilege for us to work on this unique project. We have received wonderful feedback along the way, but this award represents important and gratifying official recognition of our efforts by our peers."

The Muse Gold award adds to the professional recognition already achieved by the DVD-ROM on both sides of the Atlantic. Along with being nominated for a Bafta Interactive Award earlier this year, the work recently picked up a Bronze Horizon Interactive Award for Education/Training.
