Designing Britain goes online

October 2002

A new web site about design in Britain has just gone live. Cogapp were selected by the Designing Britain project at the University of Brighton to develop the web site featuring specially commissioned essays for students and teachers of design in Britain 1945-1975.

Featured subjects include 1950s coffee bars, public art projects, exhibition design and a wonderful selection of dressmaking patterns from the 1940s and 50s. Illustrations comprise nearly 900 archive images.

The site was premiered at a conference at the University on September 3. The site was built using CogApp's CEF tool which enabled rapid development and easy updates. The site is integrated with a FileMaker Pro database developed by the University which holds the image metadata.

From early 2003 the site will be integrated into the VADS (Visual Arts Data Service) site. This enables visitors to search across a growing number of resources which share common metadata standards.
