Baltimore Museum of Art's new online exhibition launched

October 2002

Baltimore Museum of Art recently launched the online exhibition: 'Painted Prints: the revelation of color'.

Cognitive Applications produced a website and kiosk in support of the exhibition. 'Painted Prints' sheds new light on forgotten treasures. Many scholars and collectors have dismissed many painted prints as late adulterations to earlier works, but this exhibition shows how most were colored in the Renaissance and Baroque periods.

The web site and kiosk focus on a variety of themes including the coloring process, investigating colour prints, the artists and colorists, and the reasons for colouring. Information about the exhibition and the research of the Baltimore Museum of Art is also included. Teachers are also catered for, as a teachers' guide including lesson plans is available to download.

The web site was produced using Cognitive Applications CEF tool, and incorporates the use of Flash to zoom in on images, switch between colored and uncolored versions of prints, and illustrate coloring techniques.
