Interactive unveiled at V&A
June 2008
London's Victoria & Albert Museum has just opened its new Jewellery Gallery (The William and Judith Bollinger Jewellery Gallery). The opening of the gallery also saw the unveiling of three interactive kiosks designed and built by Cogapp.
The 'Search the Jewellery Gallery' interactive allows visitors to search 3000 objects from the gallery's impressive collection. Visitors can search the complete database, or use the faceted navigation system to explore through categories. Filters such as 'Material', 'Location' or 'Object Type' can be applied or removed in any order, supporting a near infinite number of journeys through the collection. Users also benefit from being able to view objects full screen, with a deeply zoomable interface that allows close inspection of detail.
As well as delivering the interactive, Cogapp has provided the V&A with the tools required to easily add objects, or update information. The three kiosks can also be remotely synchronised.
The project was built using Cogapp's new kiosk framework, which is capable of supporting potential multiplatform deployment (i.e. to a mobile or other device) should the need arise. The framework makes this possible by decoupling the way information is displayed from the data itself.
Eric Bates, Multimedia Manager at the V&A, said: "Working with Cogapp has been both a professional and rewarding experience, and one I would recommend to others."
