HSBC History Wall unveiled

September 2002

On Friday 27th September, a 'History Wall' was unveiled at HSBC's new London headquarters on Canary Wharf. The wall was designed by the Thomas Heatherwick Studio and features almost 4000 images from the company archives, on a wall over 30 metres long and 7 metres high.

Cognitive Applications was selected by HSBC to develop an Interactive Key for the History Wall. Running on two touchscreen units in front of the wall itself, the Interactive Key enables visitors to zoom in on any of the images and to get further information from captions and glossary terms.

The runtime application was developed using Macromedia Director. A utilities screen accessible from the touchscreen enables the client to update the image locations, captions and glossary entries at any time from their content management database.
