Women's group celebrates twenty one years with CD-ROM publication
September 2003To mark its twenty-first anniversary, Black Women's Health and Family Support (BWHAFS) approached us to work with them on a CD-ROM project.
The disc serves as an easily-accessible educational and visual resource for educators, social services, community groups, health workers and anyone with an interest in black women's health, Somali issues or international development. Rachael Rainbow, our project manager, undertook the challenge of running a project that had to be as cost-effective as humanly possible while still delivering a satisfying result.
The completed CD-ROM features five sections: information gathered from the BWHAFS archives including oral testimonies and case studies; background on the organisation and its many projects; a section specifically focussing on the practice of female genital mutilation; a historical background to Somalia/Somaliland and immigration; and, finally, useful contacts, resources and links. Somali illustrations and poems add to the disc's visual appeal and richness.
We were very pleased to be involved with such a worthwhile cause. Working with the staff at BWHAFS, using HTML generated from our CEF editing tool, Rachael and her team were able to help them produce an attractive and cost-effective product.
Roberta Silva, project co-ordinator for the CD-ROM at BWHAFS, commented, 'We are very pleased with the result of this collaborative project with Cogapp'.
Black Women's Health & Family Support, (BWHAFS) works to promote the reproductive and sexual health and the rights of African women wherever they are.
