Who's Who
Dr Tristan Roddis ~ Head of Web Development
Tristan oversees the technical development of the majority of our web projects. As well as managing other people in the web team, he helps to write the code for the large variety of database-backed websites that we create. He mainly focuses on the back-end development, and is frequently found talking to clients during specification and ongoing project discussions.
He has worked on a wide variety of projects since joining Cogapp in 2004. These include online collections systems for museums such as the National Portrait Gallery, MoMA and the Cleveland Museum of Art as well as content-managed web sites for ICONS and the Good Schools Guide International.
He is intimately acquainted with several types of database and operating system, and speaks a variety of server-side programming languages (including PHP, Python, Ruby, Java, VB, Perl). His knowledge includes an extensive understanding of the Plone content management system, enriched by his participation in Plone conferences in Austria and a collaborative-coding session in Italy.
In a previous incarnation, he worked for a variety of London-based companies to create intranets, extranets and e-commerce sites for corporate clients including Fortnum & Mason, the Chartered Institute of Marketing, AXA and Ford Europe. He speaks Spanish and French, has a PhD in Atmospheric Chemistry, and a largely wasted ability to repair ultra-high vacuum systems.
Tristan is a member of the UK Unix Users Group (UKUUG) and an occasional contributor to the Brighton New Media list.
He enjoys social geekery such as Barcamp, Hack Day, Coding Dojos and Geek Dinners, as well as less-than-social geekery such as programming AVR microcontrollers and writing Facebook applications. He is also a keen inline skater and cyclist.
