User Experience
A positive user experience is critical to success with online and interactive media. Using rigorous but practical techniques we help clients get results which are demonstrably better for their intended audience.
A user experience is the sum total of the interactions a user has with a system or product, whether it is a website, a touchscreen or an online collection. In order to ensure a positive user experience, we consider a number of different aspects, including users expectations and goals; the usability of the system; its visual presentation and emotional impact.
We employ a user experience process that places users at the heart of system development. The most effective way to do this is to include input from real end-users, representative of the target audience, at all stages in system development.
Our user experience process will incorporate some or all of the following:
- Contextual research with the commissioning organisations internal stakeholders
- Initial user research to establish users goals and expectations, by online survey and/or depth interviews
- Usability testing of existing systems
- Strategy workshops to map (and reconcile) organisational goals to user goals
- Card sorting exercises
- Persona development
- User testing of work in progress throughout the information architecture, graphic design and implementation phases
We tailor this process to the size, budget and timescales of our clients. While continued user testing throughout the development of a project is preferred, even the involvement of one user can make a big difference, focusing the development process on the needs of the user and improving understanding of what makes an effective system.
Depending on the scale of the project, we will either carry out the research and testing in-house, or in collaboration with our preferred usability consultants, Web Usability Partnership.
Cogapps offices incorporate an observed user testing studio to allow us to test regularly and economically.
