Codeo - Cogapp's coding competition
August 2008
Cogapp has launched a new coding competition for students in the Sussex area. Called 'Codeo', it will see monthly challenges for those studying, or interested in, coding, programming and web or game design. A cash prize of £100 will be awarded to the winning individual or group submission, following an internal judging process at the end of each month. The winner will also be invited to our Brighton office to meet our team, and will have their work displayed on our blog (they will, of course, remain the full owner of their code or intellectual property).
The competition is a chance to strengthen ties between local industry and the universities. Course tutors will be telling students about the challenges, and may later help Cogapp select tasks that tie in with course modules. In time, Codeo may become a useful learning resource and networking space, as participants begin to compare and exchange tips and ideas.
It is hoped the competition will encourage students to try new ideas and develop their skills, contributing in the longer term to the development of digital media in Brighton.
Liz Guy, Senior Lecturer at the University of Brighton's School of Computing, Mathematics and Information Sciences, said: "Codeo is a great opportunity for aspiring digital media programmers to tackle real-world coding challenges. We are sure that University of Brighton computing students will be keen to take part in the competition and build links with local industry."
