Cogapp announces winner of Christmas/New Year edition of Codeo

Entrants into Codeo, Cogapp's monthly coding competition for Sussex-based students, were treated to a special seasonal edition of the technical tournament over the Christmas/ New Year period with a bonus prize on offer: a brand new 16GB iPod Touch.

Each month since September 2008, Cogapp's Codeo team has set a new programming challenge. For this bumper two-month version of the contest, entrants were asked to use the cross-platform development environment Processing to create an image viewer that reacts to sound.

The winning entry came from Martynas Balandis, in the form of a "Laughing Robot of the Night". Martynas' robot not only moves in time to music, but also greets the user with an appropriate message depending on the time of day.

Senior tutors from Brighton and Sussex Universities have taken an active role in promoting Codeo, giving their students the chance to forge closer links with the industry. Now Cogapp is keen to expand this unique opportunity to higher education students at universities and colleges throughout West Sussex and further into East Sussex.
