Cogapp develops the first Dorling Kindersley Eyewitness Travel iPad App
November 2010

Dorling Kindersley are producers of Eyewitness Travel, one of the world’s leading travel guide series. We’re proud to announce that our latest project has seen us work with DK to provide Eyewitness Travel with a new outlet for the iPad, a device that could have been designed to showcase their beautiful visual appeal. Starting with the Eyewitness Travel guide to Paris iPad app, we have worked with DK to design a new interactive and visual language for the guides. The DK Eyewitness Paris App is now available via the iTunes store.

The DK Eyewitness Paris App, combines all the beauty and authority of the much-loved DK Eyewitness guide books with the functionality and depth of content demanded by travellers today. The app takes full advantage of the large-scale lushness and interactive capabilities of the iPad, and provides a rich and immersive travel experience.

The app can be used for all stages of your travel experience -  from identifying the places you really want to go and planning your holiday, to finding great restaurants or sights near to where you are when on location, creating itineraries and sharing them with friends via email, or simply to dive into the city and dream.

Features of the app include 3D cross-sections of ‘star sights,’ beautifully illustrated street by street walks, as well as full GPS enabled DK mapping built into the map which means that you can locate yourself in the city wherever you are. All attractions, hotels, restaurants and shops are pinpointed on the maps with a simple tap delivering all the information you need.

“We really feel this will be a game-changer in the travel App for iPad market” says Digital Publisher for DK Peter Buckley “When the iPad launched, we were very excited that at last we had a device that could really showcase the beauty of a DK Eyewitness Travel Guide. We’ve taken everything people love about DK guide books and added in so much depth of content and ways to explore that content, creating a product that is not only gorgeous to look at, but also a joy to use, and packed full of really useful information for any traveller.”

Alex Morrison said “We’ve been inspired by the wonderful content of Eyewitness Paris and we’re grateful to our colleagues at Dorling Kindersley for the chance to work on this fabulous product – a milestone in digital travel publishing. The iPad is a wonderful publishing platform and we’re having fun exploring its possibilities.  We look forward to seeing how Eyewitness Paris measures up to the competition.”
