The Jewish Museum Website Launches
December 2008

We’re pleased to announce that the major new website we’ve designed for The Jewish Museum in New York has launched.

Upon winning a competitive tender to update the Museum’s website, Cogapp was awarded an additional preliminary project to develop a comprehensive digital media strategy in order to better inform and focus the redesign. Two directives drove the project: putting the collection online and increasing access to educational resources. We conducted extensive research including stakeholder interviews and user testing sessions on both sides of the Atlantic, completing a detailed report on the unique needs of the institution and its audience in Spring 2007.

Soon after, we undertook the next phase of work planned by the Museum: making the recommendations detailed in the report a reality. Our team began by upgrading the site's information architecture and refreshing its visual design. Next, a digital structure was created for the Museum's online collection, driven by Cogapp's own COBOAT publishing system. The website's current education section and calendar were also enhanced to help visitors stay up to date with the wide variety of events taking place at the Museum. Finally, we implemented an E-Card service, allowing visitors to share objects from the Museum's collection via email.

Ruth Beesch, Deputy Director for Program at the Museum, said: "In this wired world of global communication, The Jewish Museum is thrilled to be launching our next generation web site — one filled with interactive features that provide access to the Museum as never before".

The site's launch was covered by The New York Times in January. You can read the article here.
