Mapping Lesotho
May 2008
The Lesotho Atlas, a rich interactive map for the Letsema Initiative, has now gone live.
Following the delivery of a website for Sentebale: the Princes’ Fund for Lesotho, completed in July 2007, Cogapp was commissioned to develop a map for the Fund’s Letsema Initiative.
This involved taking large quantities of GPS data for various amenities around Lesotho (hospitals, schools, air fields, etc) and plotting them onto a Google Map overlaid with Lesotho district names and boundaries. The location of all known aid-based organisations in Lesotho were added, with each being linked to their respective pages on the website. Cogapp's developers used the wealth of Google Maps API JavaScript functions for a smooth user experience that doesn't require page reloads.
The map can be seen here.
Geoffrey Matthews, Sentebale's Chief Executive, said:
"Cogapp have continued their outstanding work for us by creating an invaluable resource for Lesotho and the aid organisations working there. They have as ever been a joy to deal with."
