Six e-learning modules for SCIE
September 2008
Cogapp has delivered six new e-learning modules for the Social Care Institute for Excellence. The modules are divided between two topics: 'Children of Prisoners' and 'Residential Child Care'.
The modules are aimed at social care professionals and students. The first topic explores the impact of having a parent in prison, and looks at how social workers can better understand the issues and help those in need. The second topic focuses on the issues surrounding children placed in care, and is similarly designed to help social workers meet their needs.
Cogapp took a highly creative approach to the modules, creating a kind of 'immersive environment' designed to fully engage users and encourage learning. Cogapp organised and ran model shoots and audio recordings, which were used with repurposed third party video clips to create a multimedia-rich digital environment. As with any project of this nature, accessibility was a key concern, and a fully accessible text version was created for those with visual or hearing impairment. This version is suitable for screen-readers, and all text can be resized freely.
Colin Paton, Senior e-Learning Project Manager at SCIE, said:
“These e-learning resources, aimed at the social care workforce, provide an introduction to two key, but often little understood, areas that relate to the care of children. We have every hope that these resources will be very well received within the sector and this will be due in large part to Cogapp’s creative, flexible and hands-on approach to the project. The very visual, immersive approach proposed and developed by Cogapp for this project was quite a radical departure from that used by SCIE in previous series, but initial reactions by users have been extremely positive.”
