Home Office

Information Architecture

About the Project

As part of a major web site redevelopment project, the Home Office wanted to adopt a user-centred approach to better meet user goals and satisfy its own business needs as the lead government department for immigration and passports, drugs policy, counter-terrorism, police and science and research. Working collaboratively with the client, and positioning the user as the pivotal benchmark for decision-making at all stages, we produced a website architecture that transferred focus from the services offered to the issues most affecting users.

The result was a website that truly met the needs of the public. It also started a process that revolutionised the way in which the site was viewed within the organisation, fostering a broader user-focused culture  that is evidenced by the Home Office's application of the same user-centred approach to the architecture and design of their stakeholder portals.  The site was awarded a ‘Best in Class’ award, the highest honour bestowed by the 2007 Interactive Media Awards, in recognition of its high standards of design, content, functionality, usability and standards compliance.
