The National Archives

Website Design Consultancy & IA

About the project

Preserving 1,000 years of the Nation’s records from parchment to websites, The National Archives is rising to the challenge of ensuring the survival of digital information for future generations. Its website plays a critical role in this mission by providing people worldwide with access to the records, yet its navigation, functionality and design were in need of a major overhaul.

We conducted user research and undertook an extensive programme of design exploration, covering imagery, navigation, iconography and page layouts documented by online design guidelines. Alongside the design work, we delivered user-tested wireframes for key areas of the site that considerably improved the user experience and supported the clients’ goals. Following on from this phase of the development, we continue to work closely with them as their online strategy continues to evolve.
