Andy Cummins

As Managing Director, Andy leads Cogapp’s work on a day-to-day basis.

Andy's balance of technical and production skills have been honed over more than a decade at Cogapp. He has helped deliver an incredibly wide range of projects under various roles from technical lead to producer, as well as developer for clients including The British Library, The UK National Archives, MoMA New York, Bibliothèque nationale de France, and the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles.

Most recently Andy has been leading the development of Cogapp Refinery Services and Storiiies. The Cogapp Refinery Services platform enables thoughtful application of automated enrichment tools with a particular focus on digitised cultural collections. It has been used to great effect on several of our most recent projects notably The Arabian Gulf Digital Archive.

Storiiies is a digital storytelling platform built on the International Image Interoperability Framework. With a fast growing user-base including, among others, The Bibliothèque nationale de France, The Folger Shakespeare Library and Ghent University, Andy is proud that this work is boosting the profile of IIIF as a common standard for the wider GLAM sector.

Andy has a degree in Software Engineering from The University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and is a certified Scrum Master. He has experience in a range of both back-end and front-end web technologies as well as years of experience in Objective-C and Java in relation to both mobile applications and on-site, digital interactive experiences.

In the past few years Andy has facilitated a meditative IIIF based interactive experience for conference attendees at the MCN conference in Denver, Colorado as well as a mass-participation immersive experience in Museu Condes de Castro Guimarães as part of the Lumina Light Festival in Cascais, Portugal.

Andy has presented many talks and delivered a range of workshops at major international conferences including IIIF Consortium events, the Museum Computer Network (MCN) conference, the Museums and the Web conference as well as MuseumNext.

Andy is a member of The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences and a member of the board of directors at the Museum Computer Network, a membership organisation dedicated to growing the digital capacity of museum professionals. He is also a board member at Phoenix Art Space, a unique arts organisation, located in the centre of Brighton.
